Introduction
On May 16, 2025, ARM and TSMC jointly revealed a new initiative to co-develop an optimized AI SoC reference design on TSMC’s N4P process node. The project, aimed at low-power, high-efficiency AI edge inference, marks a deepened partnership between the IP giant and the world’s leading foundry.
“AI is reshaping silicon from cloud to edge,” said ARM CEO Rene Haas. “Our joint N4P platform will help startups and OEMs accelerate next-generation inference designs without reinventing the architecture.”¹
The platform will include AI-specific Cortex‑X and Cortex-A variants, pre-validated NPUs, and support for TSMC’s 3D fabric packaging and chipset interconnects. ARM will also release open-reference firmware tuned to the new designs for inference scheduling and memory optimization.
